Although the boundaries were enclosed with a fence, migratory routes were left in some parts to allow free migration of animals between the Lewa and the neighbouring conservation areas. As of today, Lewa Wildlife Conservancy holds about 13% of all the rhinos in Kenya totalling to about 138 of both black and white rhinos. The Craig family handed over the management of the reserve to a nonprofit organization that runs its activities up to today.
